October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and Every Women’s Place (EWP) is collaborating with local businesses to help raise awareness and support survivors of domestic violence. On Saturday, October 24th, customers can purchase two special features, the White Chocolate and Cranberry Cannoli and the Lavender White Chocolate Mocha at the Only Cannoli. A portion of the proceeds that are collected on Saturday will help support Every Women’s Place and the multiple services and programs that EWP provides. The goal of promoting various events throughout the month of October is to educate individuals, who may not be familiar with Every Women’s Place, and who may need their services.
Sarah De La Rosa, Non-Residential Program Manager from Every Women’s Place, was able to meet me at the Only Cannoli to discuss the various services that EWP offers and to taste test the featured goodies for Saturday’s Event. “People commonly think of Every Women’s Place as a women’s shelter. Specifically, we have a residential crisis center for women that may experience domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking situations”, stated Sarah. “We offer a multitude of services for both men and women that are not residing in our shelters. Typically, our non-residential services include advocacy, court accompaniment, assisting with filling out various applications, attending police interviews, and we link individuals to other community agencies and programs. Services are tailored to the needs of each survivor, so they vary. We also have a crisis response team that will dispatch to the hospital to accompany someone who has been a victim sexual assault or domestic violence. Individuals can request to have an advocate present during an examination.”
Throughout the month of October, Hey, Sugar is also featuring their Blueberry Mojito as a special feature for Purchase with a Purpose. Customers can purchase this delicious flavor of cotton candy and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to EWP. The more we talked about food, the more we eyed the tasty cannolis that were sitting across from us on the table. We both reached for a cannoli, and after the first bite we were hooked. The Only Cannoli takes their cannoli making seriously as they offer a variety of amazing flavors. A staple in Sicilian cuisine, Cannoli are Italian pastries consisting of fried pastry dough, filled with a sweet, creamy ricotta filling. The White Chocolate and Cranberry filled cannoli was so light and decadent, that Sarah and I couldn’t say anything as we both were falling in love with this flavor combination. The next item to try was the Lavender White Chocolate Mocha. The lavender was very smooth, and pairs nicely with the white chocolate. This mocha was not too sweet and light in coffee and lavender taste.
Come on down to the Only Cannoli on Saturday, October 24th from 12pm to 8pm to Purchase with a Purpose! Every Women’s Place will also be available on Saturday from 12pm to 4pm to answer any questions about their services and programs.
