Ladies and gentleman, it is that time of the year for the wonderful Taste of Muskegon. Celebrating its 14th year, this food festival provides local restaurants the opportunity showcase their top food items. Historically, Taste of Muskegon would take place at Hackley Park (350 W. Webster Ave., Muskegon, MI 49440) every third Friday and Saturday in June.
This year, the organizers of Taste of Muskegon wanted to make sure that food festival took place. THANK GOD! Taste of Muskegon has transformed into a virtual event to comply with COVID-19 safety guidelines providing takeout services and food truck options spread throughout Muskegon County. Local restaurants will prepare a menu of up to four items with the ability to try individual items or a flight, small portions of each item of their menu. The food festival, which typically took place for only one weekend in June has been extended to 10 days allowing attendees the opportunity to try different restaurants.
Rachel and I had the opportunity to check out a few restaurants/food trucks over the weekend. The food was soo delicious! The virtual concept is wonderful because it allows you to browse the restaurants menu and location before heading to a specific restaurant or food truck.
We checked out:
- Big Red’s BBQ – Food truck, located in the Hot Rod Harley-Davidson parking lot [149 Shoreline Dr., Muskegon]
- The Only Cannoli – located 1143 3rd St., Muskegon
- 18th Amendment – located 350 W. Western, Muskegon

First off, Big Red’s BBQ was beyond delicious! They offered Pig Mac, Pig Daddy, Pork Popper, Flight, and Pork Sandwich. Rachel and I checked out their flight to get a little taste of everything, excluding the pork sandwich. Each item was delicious. The Pig Daddy consisted of pulled pork, smoked mac, beans, and coleslaw. The Pig Mac consisted of pulled pork, smoked mac topped with sauce. The Pork Popper consisted of a stuffed jalapeno with “lots of goodness” and boy were they not kidding. The flavor packed into all of the items was mind blowing! Rachel and I sure will be back! Highly recommend!
The Only Cannoli has become one of my favorite bakery’s, thankfully, because of Rachel. Their delicious pastries never ceases to amaze me. For the Taste of Muskegon, they are offering: Dulce de Leche Churro Cannoli, Maple Bacon Cannoli, and a flight of both mouthwatering pastries. My favorite was the Dulce de Leche Churro Cannoli and Rachel’s was the Maple Bacon Cannoli. Highly suggest checking them both out! Oh, and their other usual menu items! You will not regret it!
Last, but not least 18th Amendment. Since it’s opening, this has been a go-to place for Rachel and I. After stuffing our faces, we wanted to grab a cocktail. Their featured Taste of Muskegon cocktail is the SMITTEN. The SMITTEN consists of blackberry infused gin, plumb wine, lemon juice, topped with soda, and served with a blackberry, blueberry, raspberry skewer. It was refreshingly delicious with amazing flavors. The unique flavors curb the typical gin (pine) taste. If you are typically not a fan of gin, I would suggest checking this drink out anyway!

Looking forward to tasting:
1. Corine’s Cakes and Catering 2. Cortes Mini Donuts 3. Hey Sugar Cotton Candy Co. 4. Hodgepodge Bake Shop 5. Morat’s Bakery
Stay tuned for Taste of Muskegon Pt. 2 or 4 depending on how hungry we are…
With love,
