My name is Rachel and I love food! I think what I enjoy most about exploring new food venues are the experiences that you can have from trying a new cuisine, a new environment, or a new town.
I live, work, and play in West Michigan. Growing up in Muskegon, the ever growing and expanding city has been on every Michigander’s radar. With some of the best recreational activities to offer, our beaches and winter sports complex are very unique offerings. In 2018, Muskegon’s Pere Marquette Park was voted number one in the state, according to USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice Poll. Located along Lake Michigan, Pere Michigan Park features a wide expanse of beach, a playground, volleyball courts, the Deck restaurant, and access to a beautiful channel that is perfect watching the sunset.
During the winter, the Winter Sports Complex is bustling with locals on the outside ice skating trial, which sounds like the perfect date. Picture it. Ice skating on a perfectly lit trial with colorful lights. Sounds perfect with some hot cocoa. Spiked if you’re into that sort of thing. The Winter Sports Complex also offers cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and an accessible luge track. The luge track is one of the most publicly accessible luge tracks in the United States.
I know some of you are wondering, but yes, we have several breweries and a locally owned distillery in Muskegon. 18th Amendment offers their own signature blend of spirits such as rum, vodka, rye whiskey, bourbon, and gin. They are known for their creative cocktail, especially their Chesterfield, which is a similar to a smoked old fashion. For breweries, we have Unruly Brewery, Pigeon Hill Brewery, and Rakes Brewing.
Right here in Muskegon, El Tapatio was voted number one for best Mexican Restaurant throughout Michigan! That is pretty big deal, especially for someone that LOVES tacos.
